Project 3 – Kunhar Hospital in remote Pakistani Kashmir
Our good friends in the Pakistani side of Kashmir run a remote hospital and are the only medical facility for miles around.
Starting 40+ years ago Dr Haroon with his wife and small family in tow, established what is now the Kunhar hospital. Starting out with nothing more than a small shack like medical post. They have grown the premises and capacity of the hospital so now people from all around can come and receive treatment and counselling for a myriad of conditions.
However finance is always an ongoing issue. In a country where there’s little to no government assistance. Along with their remote and conflict riddled location. It makes getting equipment and funds a challenge at the best of times.
To put it in perspective the hospitals here in NZ have a budget of 50 million upwards a year whereas Kunhar Hospital has a budget of roughly 300,000 USD a year.
Equipment, supplies, maintenance, staff pay, medical outreaches. These are all areas where we want to be able to contribute to this amazing cause.
