Firstly Proper Crisps take the whole GMO free white corn kernel is soaked in limewater. This process of soaking increases the nutritional value, flavor and aroma. These corn kernels can then be wet ground into a Masa (dough) using Mexican volcanic stones. This process is called nixtamalization and is truly the authentic way to make corn tortillas and tortilla chips. This traditional method has almost been lost, but were bringing it back! The Masa is then carefully pressed into round tortillas, cut into traditional triangles, and hand cooked in small batches by the talented chefs at “Proper” using New Zealand grown High Oleic, cold pressed sunflower oil.
Were always Vegan and gluten free which is why we’ve spiced things up, gone a bit cheesy and brought you a spicy, dairy free cheese alternative, tortilla chip! Made using a vegan friendly blend of nutritional yeast, spices and dried Jalapeno peppers .
These chips will have your taste buds saying ARIBA! ARIBA! Delicious eaten by themselves, or added to your favorite tortilla/nacho based recipe, and the best thing, once your done simply pop the packet in your garden compost and it will naturally decompose – how eco is that.
